One of the questions I get asked very often is “why should I start a home based business?” When I hear this question I have to force myself to think about things from their perspective. Sure, starting a new business is scary. There will be problems and chances are it will not go as you plan the first try. I understand all of that, but one of the most important lessons I have learned from history is that Thomas Edison failed to make a light bulb over 10000 times as he was trying to make a light bulb. He did not see it like he failed each time. In his words, “I was successful at finding 10,000 ways that did not work.” What if he had given up after eight thousand or so failures? Yes, in that situation he would have failed.

During the past 12 months the world has experienced drastic economic change. In the United States multiple banks have failed. Major industry has experienced a drastic drop in demand, with the automobile industry on the brink of failure. Millions of families find their breadwinners out of work, with the new President of the United States predicting several million more job losses in the coming year. Most people know of at least one family suffering from severe economic problems, with many many families losing their homes. Even more families are torn apart when their finances cause undue stress, pressure, and concern. These facts cause one to wonder “Why?” And whether there is anything they can do to protect themselves from being just another statistic.

Another, more positive set of statistics show that the financial problems of most families are not nearly as dire as the news would have everyone believe. In fact, even though most families get by on exactly what they bring in, living from check to check with little to no savings or back-up money, some simple changes in expendable income can protect and even allow families to thrive in these current economic times. This past year, the majority of personal bankruptcies could have been prevented with as little as $500 per month in additional, expendable income. Think about it. What would an additional $500 of extra money do for you and your family? Could you start to pay off those credit cards? Would you be able to finally start that retirement savings plan? Would it help you be able to simply keep all those things you worked so hard to acquire? I bet almost everyone would love to have an additional $500 each month.

Once you have an extra $500 each month how easy is it to turn it into $1000, $10,000, or even $50,000? Well, it is not only easy it is simple, if you know what to do and commit yourself to doing it. I will show you exactly what you need to do to achieve your dreams and give you three different options for doing it. I guarantee it!

Before you start your new business you have to start with the end in mind. First you must take a serious look at your current economic state and evaluate where you need to be in order to be comfortable (Goal #1). Then you need to set some short-term goals or benchmarks to get there. Several short term goals and the final completion of your comfort goal, which will be Goal #1. Next you need to set a loftier goal (Goal #2), one that encompasses your biggest dream or desire. One you can continue work toward after you are comfortable with an ultimate timeframe for accomplishing your goal of between 5 and ten years. Would you like to live debt free? Would you like to retire with $3 million dollars in the bank? Would you like to have your Children’s education and weddings paid for? Goal #2 will be your long-term goal, which will take you between 5 and ten years to accomplish.

Once you have achieved your second goal, you will be able to give back. Think of all the people you can influence in a positive manner once you are free from your financial problems. Having a consistent and significant residual income will allow you to do whatever you want. Now lets get to it.

One of the beauties of living in the modern day is the ease of starting a small business, particularly when one considers the ability to open a business online. In fact, with the growth of the internet one can list items for sale and available to people all around the world in less time than it takes most people to go to the grocery store and buy a gallon of milk. There has never before been an opportunity to reach such a vast market with so little risk than now.

On top of the ease of doing business in a vast marketplace, most countries have favorable tax incentives for small businesses. The majority of the time all start-up costs, a portion of one’s home, and many other costs are deducted from an individual’s income taxes each year. Many small business owners are able to pay for the majority of their start up costs simply from the taxes they save during the first three years of operations. Tax savings are a major benefit of being a business owner.

If you consider the risks involved in open a traditional business the fees and downside risk vs. potential were astronomical. Even with the many franchise opportunities, business owners had to put in hundreds of thousands of dollars even before they were open for one day. They had tons of money on the line and never collected a dime from a buyer.

Starting a home-based business, on the other hand, is much less risky. A home business one does not have to be something that requires you to mortgage your house or risk your retirement. Setting up a small home business can often be done for less than the price of a weekend get away. In fact, there are thousands of options, many with little to no risk. Most individuals have difficulties determining which option is best for their situation because they do not know which options are best, or they are scared they may fail. This fear is understandable because some businesses require a significant investment of capital. Others consume considerable time.

Do not let this fear stop you. In my opinion, one of the easiest ways to start a home-based business is to use drop shipping. Drop shipping is a relationship where the manufacturer ships the product direct to your buyers. Drop Shipping businesses are perfect for the internet because you can open a website or sell on Ebay for very inexpensively.
